There was a reading of Goethe's literature on account of his birthday [August 28, 1749]. In the afternoon our group had an hour of English literature. A lecture about politics and at night a ballot was given by the working camp news people. so far I got only a parcel without a note. At last I get news though very old and a small lot at a time.It dates from the good olden days and therefore can't relieve much of the anxiety. But it is at least good sign. Terrible that you can't get newsthrough quicker.Am glad having received an answerfrom Ernest Have written at once. Wonder how long it'll take to get a reply . Some of clothing issued at last/ The POW pattern trousers with red stripes shirts and jackets with large red patches. Living newspaper on Sunday arrived. Having taken the official suits people now look like toy soldiers with blue red uniforms. It is rumored that shoes should be issued in the near future. that is very important as my shoes are entirely torn and new boots strongl;y desired. The great moment comes. We get boots issued. I get the very last pair of No.8 That was just in time because it looked as if the raining season had just waited till we had got our boots. It is raining the whole day. You have to balance yourself across the mud to reach a certain place you find (PeR1) yourself forced to use accasionally. This place is by the way rather than an unpleasant chapter in the history of this camp.
